Vehicle Registration Services Alert: The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) "classic" online vehicle registration

renewal portal is no longer available. At this time, not all vehicle registration services are available online. If you're

eligible for online vehicle registration renewal, please use Texas by Texas (TxT) to create an account, link your eligible

vehicle, and complete your transaction. You can review TxT FAQs and Vehicle Registration Renewal FAQs for more

details. For more information about TxT, visit Texas.gov/TxT. If you have a commercial or government vehicle that

needs to be renewed, please visit the DMV website for information about in-person and mail-in renewal options.

Vehicle Registration Renewals Have Moved

Online motor vehicle registration renewals for Texans with a valid driver license are now available through Texas by

Texas (TxT).

You can renew your registration using:

What You Need to Know

Some services previously offered online are not available in TxT:

  • eReminders

TxT provides its own alerts and reminders. Traditional TxDMV eReminders are no longer offered. You will still

receive your paper or digital renewal notice.

  • Address Changes

To update your address, submit Form VTR-146 by mail or visit your county tax office or a TxDMV Regional

    Service Center.

  • Certain Trailer Renewals

Some trailers cannot be renewed in TxT. If online renewal is unavailable, visit your county tax office or an

authorized renewal partner (such as grocery stores or insurance companies).

  • Business, Trust, or Government-Owned Vehicles

TxT accounts are for individuals only. These vehicles must be renewed in person.

Creating a TxT Account

To set up your TxT account, you'll need:

  • A personal email address
  • A mobile phone number
  • A current Texas DL or ID
  • Your Social Security number

Reminder: Only individuals can create TxT accounts.
